Dr. Sarah Stombaugh: Hi, I'm Dr. Sarah Stombaugh, and you are listening to the Conquer Your Weight Podcast episode number one. Announcer: Welcome to the Conquer Your Weight podcast, where you will learn to understand your mind and body so you can achieve long-term weight loss. Here's your host, obesity medicine physician and life coach, Dr. Sarah Stombaugh. Dr. Sarah Stombaugh: Welcome everyone. I am so excited to have you on this podcast journey with me. Whether you are starting out brand new from the very beginning or whether you are listening back at a later date, I just wanna say thank you. I am so excited to have you here with me today. My goal for this very first podcast is to tell you a bit about myself as well as what to expect on the Conquer Your Weight podcast. You ready? Let's dive right in. My name is Dr. Sarah Stombaugh. I'm a family medicine and obesity medicine physician by training my interest in weight loss and then obesity medicine goes back honestly, for most of my life in my family, there were many people who struggled with their weight while others did not. And I always wondered why that was the case. It was honestly one of the big factors that led me to study medicine. As I got into my medical training, it was my patients that drove me to want to learn and understand more about obesity, medicine, and weight loss. As I got into my training, patients would come to me asking over and over again, Hey Doc, I'm trying to lose weight. What are the things that I can do to lose weight? And the interesting thing is that many of them had brought this up with their doctors previously, but in medicine we're have so many different things that we are focused on that can be really challenging to dedicate the time that weight loss really deserves. So patients may have been given advice like, yeah, just eat less and move more. And as you know, that advice never worked for them. So as patients were coming to me and I was getting this asked over and over again, it really made me think, how can I best help my patients learn how to lose weight? And that started my journey in obesity medicine training. Ultimately, I became board certified in obesity medicine. And through both my training as well as working with my patients, I learned that there are so many factors that impact why we struggle with weight. And that's everything from diet to exercise, sleep, stress or medical conditions, the treatments for those medical conditions, and most importantly, our psychology. And I knew that the psychology was going to be the crux of treating weight loss for my patients. I would have so many patients coming to me and say, Hey, Dr. Stombaugh, I know I should be doing this, or I should be doing that. You know, like I woke up this morning and I was going to eat healthy. Like I was going to do it. But then all of a sudden I found myself driving through the drive-through at Dunkin Donuts and I've had a sugary coffee beverage and two donuts. Why do I keep doing this to myself? So as all of this was going on, I had enrolled myself in a professional development program that focused on coaching for women physicians. And I enrolled in this with a goal of coaching for personal and professional reasons, learning about how I could use coaching to help myself. But as I was going through that as a participant, I realized this was the tool that I needed to help my patients lose weight and to keep the weight off permanently. The coolest thing about life coaching is it gives you the tools to understand why you are making the decisions you're making, and when your decisions don't align with the goals that you have for yourself. That's where we really have work to do together. In each episode of the Conquer Your Weight Podcast, we're going to address different aspects of weight loss and focus on practical advice so that you can work to have success in the long term. Now, one of the most important things to mention here is that while I am a medical doctor, I am not your medical doctor. This podcast is for education only and is not intended for medical advice. Now, if you hear something interesting here, bring it back to your personal physician and you and them can talk together to decide what makes the most sense for your individual care. Now, if you want to be my patient, I'd love to have you. If you happen to live in the state of Illinois or Virginia where I'm licensed to practice as a physician, I do own a telemedicine based weight loss practice. If that's something that's interesting to you, head on over to my website. It's www.sarahstombaughmd.com. That's S-A-R-A-H, Sarah with an h, Stombaugh, S-T-O-M-B-A-U-G-H-M-D, as in medical doctor.com. Now, if individual visits aren't something that you're interested in or maybe you don't live in Illinois and Virginia where I'm licensed to practice medicine, stay tuned. I will have options for group visits in the future. You can either pay attention here on my podcast or on my website as well. Thank you for joining me on this very first episode of the Conquer Your Weight podcast. If you've enjoyed the episode today, please leave me a review wherever you subscribe to your podcast. And I hope to see you in episode number two.
